Greece Water Temperature
Greece enjoys an exceptional location, and the country is sometimes known as the ‘crossroads of Europe’ thanks to its proximity to mainland Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa and the western regions of Asia.

The country is incredibly rich in history and culture and some of the most recognisable landmarks include the Parthenon, a spectacular temple that stands on the Acropolis at Athens. There are flights from all over the world to Athens every day, so reaching Greece is easy.

Despite the size of the coastline, the water temperature around Greece only varies by about 2 degrees Celsius, so warm waters are consistent over the whole region. Sea water temperatures are approximately 56.1F or 13.4C in the northern Aegean Sea, 57.7F or 14.3C in the Ionian, and 60.9F or 16.1C to the south in the Mediterranean Sea in January. These temperatures, which are warm enough for swimming, rise steadily to reach highs of 72.2F or 24.6C in the Aegean, 76.2F or 24.9C in and 78F or 25.6C in the Mediterranean in August when all areas offer pretty similar conditions and the difference is less marked than during the winter months.

Best time to visit Greece
Greece enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate which can vary by a few degrees the further north you travel. On average, winters are mild and summers are hot and dry near the coast and in the island groups. Average temperatures tend to fall within the region of 58.8F or 14.9C in January to 87.1F or 30.6C in August.
Greece has the longest coastline of any country in the world, with the Ionian Sea on the east, the Aegean to the west and the Mediterranean to the south. Temperatures can vary depending on the region, and in mountainous areas of the mainland snow is common in winter. Skiing is as popular in winter in resorts like Parnassos which is close to Athens, as surfing, sailing and swimming are in summer in the sunny islands and coastal resorts.
